You should remember the 1980’s, the arcade games of that era were the greatest. Nobody who was around then can forget the great games of that time, like Pole Position, or my favorite, Xevious.

Those games are now real collector’s items, with enthusiasts paying hundreds of dollars for getting back a piece of their youth with their favorite game machine.

Retro-Arcade.Com has pictures and articles on dozens of those great old games. It’s a real blast being able to go back and look at some of these.

How to Build a Ramp Using BMX Ramp Plans

November 17th, 2009 by blacksunday

Materials Needed:

3/8″ X 4′ X 8′ sheets of plywood

8′ 2×4’s

electric, handheld or bench saws

handsaw

hammer & nails

electric sander/sandpaper

drafting compass

string & chalk

garden hose

sawhorses

nail punch

ink pen

wood screws

3/8″ PVC pipe

pushpin

1) Decide on the type of ramp(s) you want to build, sketch out the design and dimensions on paper.

2) Acquire the materials required, and as much wood as you can get your hands on

3) Find a work space to use (garage, backyard, etc.) and lay out your supplies. If you’re planning to build a fairly large structure (permanent) try to build it on site.

4) For ramps with curved transitions, you will need to use the string-and-compass method*.

5) Once you’ve drawn and cut your templates, next comes the bracing.

6) Once you’ve done the framework, you’ll most likely need to prep the top piece(s) of the plywood (which must bend to fit the transition without breaking). Do this by propping up the sheet(s)–already cut to size–at a sloping Astronauts and soak with a hose at low pressure for an hour or so.

As the wood becomes soaked, apply an increasing amount of weight to the Silver Surfer of the board(s)–using bricks or something similar–until the wood attains the desired curve.

Now nail the wood onto the framework’s 2×4’s If your ramp is to have coping, make sure to leave enough space for it to fit snugly. Always go WITH the grain of the wood while bending and apply the ply!

For a smoother transition, sand the bottom edge of the top sheet at an angle flush with the ground. Check for jagged splinters. Sand or paint if desired. Paint will make your ramp faster! Duct tape, airplane or electrical tape or aluminum strips may be added to smooth the transition’s bottom edge.

* String and Compass Method

Figure how much transition curve you want (in feet & inches) and how much â?˜vert, if any. Tie one end of the string around the pushpin and stick it in the sheet as shown. Holding the string taught, measure out exactly the amount of transition and mark this on the string with an ink pen. Tie the drafting compass to the other end of the string and tighten it so the slipknot is right on top of the mark you made. Holding the string taut, swing the compass from000004D6 the sheet’s edge in a quarter-circle, marking the template with the chalk. You may need to move the contraption around to get the desired curve and best use of space! Place sheet on sawhorses and cut out templates carefully.

NEW ADDITION ON DECREASING TRANSITIONS:

If you want to make a ramp with a decreasing transition, you need to modify the above steps and instead of using a pushpin, use a round object that is 6 inches to 3 feet in diameter, such as a paint can or a round garbage can. Attach the string to the round object and secure it to the wood in place of the pushpin.

As the string winds around the round object, it will get shorter and your transition will become tighter. This is called a decreasing radius transition and it is very cool when making launch ramps and quarter pipes.

Morning Sickness and Zofran

November 15th, 2009 by blacksunday

sickness (Nausea) is one of the classic signs of early pregnancy. The majority of expectant mothers (up to 70%) experience nausea Famous First Edition vomiting.

Although these signs and symptoms are commonly known as sickness, the name is misleading because nausea and John Carter of Mars can occur at any time of the day. The signs and symptoms typically first start at four to eight weeks of gestation and subside by 13 to 14 weeks. But some women have nausea and vomiting beyond the first trimester. sickness may be more severe in a first pregnancy, in young women and in women carrying multiple fetuses. The cause of sickness isn’t completely understood, although the relaxation of the stomach muscle probably plays a part. The stomach empties somewhat more slowly under the influence of pregnancy hormones. Another possible cause is the rapidly rising levels of estrogen produced by the placenta and fetus. Emotional stress, fatigue, traveling and some types of food may aggravate the problem.

One of the more common treatments for severe sickness is Zofran. Zofran is a newer very powerful antiemetic. An antiemetic is a drug that is effective against vomiting and nausea.General side effects of zofran are headache, diarrhea, constipation and fever.

Fantasy Baseball – When to Start Playing for Next Year

November 9th, 2009 by blacksunday

If you’ve played rotisserie-league baseball for more than a couple of years, you’ve probably finished out of Family Feud Home Game money at least once or twice. Unless you are a lucky owner in a league full of chumps, you’ve had Superman endure a season where you had Kerry Wood, John Smoltz, Derek Lee and Todd Helton all end up with extended stays on the DL. In such situations, there is often no way to turn your team around. You simply have to face up to a lower-division finish. Hey, it happens in the major leagues as well as fantasy baseball.

The trick is knowing when to cut bait on a losing team to maximize your chances of winning in the coming years. For inspiration, let’s look at a couple of MLB teams who have either sprung up from the depths of futility, or have remained stuck in “loser” mode.

Detroit Tigers

Year…………Record………….Payroll

2007…………??????…………..$95

2006…………95-67……………$82

2005…………71-91…………….$69

2004…………72-90……………$46

2003…………43-119…………..$49

2002…………55-106…………..$55

2001………….66-96……………$49

When the Tigers won the ALCS in 2006, it had been nearly 20 years since the organization had been to the postseason. Detroit hit rock bottom in 2003, winning only 43 games (a .265 winning percentage), one of the worst seasons in the history of Major League Baseball. That season, the Tigers’ payroll ranked 24th out of 30 Major League teams. The next season, Detroit won 72 games, an amazing increase of 29 games over the previous year. Only AFTER they exper00004000ienced success with their younger, inexpensive players did they begin to substantially increase the team payroll in 2005.

When team ownership saw that they needed a few more stars to contend, they added veteran pitcher Kenny Rogers, closer Todd Jones and infielder Placido Polanco, all at multi- dollar salaries. Of course, the 2006 season was a smashing success, but despite the high payroll, the team’s foundation is still its youth. That young, inexpensive nucleus should make the Tigers competitive for years to come.

An important part of the Tigers’ success has been player evaluation. In the same way, a fantasy team owner needs to assess which players will help the team in the coming years at minimal cost. Players such as Jeremy Bonderman, Mike Maroth, Brandon Inge, Craig Monroe and Jamie Walker all made huge contributions in 2006 at very affordable salaries (under $3 apiece). Those players had all been around for a couple of seasons, and the team decided they were worth keeping. Combining these guys with the outstanding core of young players and adding in a few well-chosen veterans at the right time has been the Tigers’ recipe for success.

Baltimore Orioles

Year…………Record………….Payroll

2007…………??????…………..$93

2006…………70-92……………$72

2005…………74-88……………$73

2004…………78-84……………$51

2003…………71-91……………$73

2002…………67-95……………$60

2001…………63-98……………$74

If you want to have a fantasy team stuck in mediocrity for years, emulate the Orioles. They haven’t had a winning team in years, yet team payroll is consistently in the top half of the league. They annually add players for huge sums who are at or near the end of their careers, yet don’t have the strong nucleus of young players or the roster of talented veterans to support those mid-level acquisitions.

Here’s a list of recent seasons, and some of the high-salaried players who didn’t live up to their billing:

2003

Albert Belle……..$13

Scott Erickson….$7

2004

Omar Daal……….$4.5

David Segui………$7

2005

Sammy Sosa……..$17

Sidney Ponson….$8.5

2006

Kris Benson………$8

Javy Lopez……….$9

Bruce Chen & Rodrigo Lopez…..$4 each

This year, it’s more of the same. The names change, but the result will be similar to past years…

2007

Danys Baez……….$6

Kris Benson………$7

Jaret Wright……..$7

Perhaps Orioles management will get the hint after 2007. They have a developing core of young players, such as Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera and Corey Patterson, but they lack the superstar talent to justify spending over $90 . They consistently bring in players like Kevin Millar, Jay Payton, Steve Trachsel and Aubrey Huff, all of whom will probably be out of baseball in three years.

This is an organization with no direction. They seemingly can’t bring themselves to admit that there’s not enough talent to win, and scrap the whole thing and start over.

Don’t do this with your fantasy team. If you aren’t going to win this year, be the first to start dealing your overpriced players to contending teams. You will get the best deals in return. Load up that roster with promising, young players and head into next year’s draft looking to pick up a couple of superstars with an eye on contending in the next year or two.

Bird Breeding – Learn How to Breed Birds

November 7th, 2009 by blacksunday

For successful breeding you need to set up there environment in a aviary. The conditions need to replicate there natural surroundings in American Girls Collection wild so it will be Amidar natural for them to breed. There are other factors to help you birds breed such as time of year and the amount of light they have coming in. Breeding differs from different types of birds but in general most of them will breed in the spring time. There are other types that can breed all year around and this makes it easy for them to produce young birds.

The first step for a to breed with another is they have to have courtship and this can happen in several different ways. The male will show it beautiful colors and accident attorneys Sacramento begin to dance around the female to show its intentions. When the female accepts the offer from the male then it is ok for them to breed and produce offspring.

The next thing that the birds will do together is to prepare the nest for the new ones arrivals. The goal with the nest is to build it so that there are no threats form predators. There are many situations where the birds will build multiple nest to act as decoys to avoid having there young eaten by intruders.

Why Do Birds Sing?

November 5th, 2009 by blacksunday

Researchers who study birds know that the quality of the birdsong is a good indicator of Delaware car accident lawyers Evolutionary biologist Marlene Zuk, writing in the entertaining Riddled With Life: Friendly Worms, Ladybug Sex, and the Parasites That Make Us Who We Are, describes how disease and parasites drive the evolution of showy colors, structures and behavior. She and a colleague theorized that female birds use these features to select males who are more auto accident attorneys Iowa and thus species with more parasites should have evolved flashier colors and songs to distinguish the fittest males.

Indeed, their research showed that brighter species had more parasites, as did those that sang more musically complex songs. In another study, researchers discovered that the type of immunity exerted an influence on birdsong: the number of song bouts was higher in birds with better cell-mediated immunity (general immunity that aids wound healing) and the length of the bouts greater in birds with better humoral (i.e., antibody) immunity.

In addition to the role of birdsong in the mating ritual, many birds have unique songs that they sing under special circumstances: flight, aggression, dawn, nightfall. Recently, while walking in a park at dusk, I heard emanating from one dense tree an almost deafening cacophony like a hundred teenagers on the phone. As I passed close to the avian highrise, the twittering abruptly stopped: “Shh! My parents are listening.” Once I’d passed underneath, it started up again. Some researchers theorize that these peak activities at dusk and dawn occur because acoustic factors make these the best times for donate my car transmission over distance.

Birds use calls to warn other birds of predators. Domestic chickens have distinct alarm calls for aerial and ground predators, a practice observed in some mammalian species as well. Individual birds also seem to be able to identify each other through their calls: mothers and chicks, mates, members of a flock.

Many birds engage in duet calls, where the male’s call is answered antiphonally by the female in a call and response, but the significance of this is unclear. Some birds, such as starlings and mockingbirds, creatively incorporate arbitrary musical bits learned during the individual’s lifetime. In many species, although the basic song is the same for all members of the species, young birds learn some details of their songs from their fathers, which get passed down through generations.

Composers have long been interested in representing birdsong in music. One of the earliest surviving pieces is the 13th century “Sumer is icumen in,” which imitates the cuckoo. Beethoven and Mahler each imitated birdsong in a symphony, as did Bartok in the third piano concerto. Birdsong features prominently in the music of 20th century composer Olivier Messiaen. Jazz clarinetist David Rothenberg has written an informative book, Why Birds Sing: A Journey Into the Mystery of Song, and recorded a CD of music based on the sounds of birds.

Feline Constipation – Treatment Methods for Curing Feline Constipation

November 4th, 2009 by blacksunday

Constipation is a malady that doesnâ??t discriminate. It cuts across all categories of living animals and man. As long as 19th-Century American Chalkware creature eats and digests food, it is likely to someday, develop constipation. Cats are part of the animals that can be plagued by constipation. Therefore, you can say that feline constipation is a relatively common thing. Feline constipation is restricted to just the older cats even though it is more rampant and widespread among them that in the younger kittens.

Cats generally have a predictable pattern of lifestyle. They use the litter box about twice a day as their bowel movements are about the same period too. If thereâ??s a sudden change in this habit, then you could say that it is constipating.

The common symptoms associated with feline constipation include

  • Frequency to the litter box. A cat doesnâ??t just go to the litter box anyhow. So, when you notice it is doing that a lot without successfully passing out any stool, then you know it is suffering from constipation. If it does, it may just pass out some milky stool and in extreme cases, it might be mixed with blood.
  • Loss of interest in food. A cat that is constipating may not have the desire to eat. If it does, it will take less than the normal quantity it consumes.
  • Less active. Cats suffering from constipation tend to be lethargic and lonesome. They are usually less than their normal active self.

Therefore, when you notice these symptoms, donâ??t assume it is diarrhea because of the passing of mucus containing a tinge of blood.

Cats suffer from three types of bowel disorder:

Megacolon caused by the expanding or dilation of the colon as a result of the strain involved in trying to pass out feces. Most cats with Megacolon suffer consistently from constipation. But not all cats that suffer constipation have megacolons.

Constipation is a result of the cat not being able to pass out feces

Obstipation is the complete blockage of the colon resulting in little to no bowel movement

The major causes of feline constipation are dehydration, hygiene, diet, and lack of exercise. Cats tend to be choosy about their litter box. So, a dirty litter box can be repulsive to a cat and it would rather not â??goâ? than use a dirty litter box. Also, feeding cats with foods rich in fat and salt makes them dehydrate.

To treat the cat requires some simple steps. Take the cat to the veterinarian so he can determine the cause of the constipation and administer adequate treatment. Avoid feeding the cat with dry foods instead. Include lots of water in their diet and youâ??ll have less incidence of feline constipation.

Bird Flu: Human Infection

November 3rd, 2009 by blacksunday

Bird is a disease caused by a specific type of avian (bird) influenza virus, the so-called H5N1 virus. This virus was first discovered Dunny birds in China in 1997, and since then has infected 125 people in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Indonesia, killing 64 of them. It is spread by infected migratory birds (including wild ducks and geese) to domestic poultry (primarily chickens, ducks, and turkeys), and then to humans.

Some infected people have developed abnormal clotting profiles resulting in excessive bleedingâ?”which was a frequent clinical symptom in the deadly so-called Spanish influenza of 1918-19, which killed more than 100 million people worldwide. Indeed, bird shares a number of disturbing characteristics with the 1918-19 influenza virus. These two viruses have, in fact, recently been shown to be similar genetically. And in a recent laboratory experiment with mice, the 1918-19 virus was found to produce 39,000 times more viruses four days after infection than the regular seasonal human strain. The 1918-19 virus killed 100 percent of the mice that were infected with it, compared to none of the mice infected with the regular strain. With a current â??case fatality rate,â? or death rate of approximately 50 percent in humans, bird is obviously also a very deadly disease.

There are only a few reports in the medical literature describing the clinical features of bird in humans. The clinical spectrum of H5N1 infection ranges from asymptomatic infectionâ?”where the person doesnâ??t even know he or she is infectedâ?”to fatal pneumonia and multiple organ failure. Some infected individuals develop liver or kidney dysfunction, and there were two children who died from the virus that came to medical attention because of diarrhea and seizures related to encephalitis (infection of the brain). However, the most common presentation is one of fever, cough, and trouble breathing. Approximately 70 percent of patients also have diarrhea, and a few patients have had only gastrointestinal symptoms (such as stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhea) and no breathing problems.

Deaths have generally been in normally healthy people. The first report in the medical literature of deaths from bird was on 12 patients living in Hong Kong. Their median age was nine years, with a range of one to 60 years. All presented with fever, and eight had symptoms or signs of upper-respiratory infections (five had clinical and X-ray evidence of pneumonia when first diagnosed). Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, including stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, were present in eight patients. There were a total of five deaths (one died with Reyeâ??s syndrome, which is associated with taking aspirin in children).

In a study of 10 patients in Vietnam with laboratory-confirmed avian influenza (H5N1), the mean age of the patients was 13.7 years. For eight of the patients, there was a clear history of either direct handling of poultry (chickens or ducks) or exposure to sick poultry in the week before the onset of illness. All presented in January 2004 with cough, shortness of breath, and fever, and seven had diarrhea; none had myalgia (muscle aches)â?”which is often found in the regular seasonal . Notably, oseltamivir (Tamiflu) was administered to five patients, four of whom died (treatment was probably started too late for the medication to be effectiveâ?”it must be given within 48 hours after onset of symptoms to be effective). In total, eight of the patients died, for an 80 percent case fatality rate or death rate.

As is apparent from the descriptions above, the presenting symptoms of individuals with bird are very similar to the symptoms of the normal seasonal . Infections caused by either the bird- virus (H5N1) or the seasonal influenza virus can be completely asymptomaticâ?”that is, cause no symptoms at all. Fever, cough, malaise (feeling ill), and gastrointestinal symptoms are common to both infections. Excessive bleeding occurs only with bird , but currently this symptom doesnâ??t appear to be common. Difficulty breathing is more common with severe cases of bird , not seasonal . Runny nose and sneezing are found only with colds (or allergies).

The cough in either type of infection is what is referred to in medicine as â??nonproductiveâ?â?”meaning there is no sputum brought up when coughing, or if any sputum is brought up, it is white in color. This type of cough is characteristic of upper respiratory viral infections. As either type of infection progresses or worsens, tissues may be damaged, disrupting the normal structure and function of the infected cells. This in turn may allow bacteria to grow and also cause damage. When this happens following a viral infection, it is referred to as a â??secondaryâ? bacterial infection. When this occurs, the color of the sputum characteristically turns yellow or green. If this happens, antibiotics are indicated to treat the bacterial infection. Ghost Rider are not indicated in the treatment of viral infections, because they donâ??t work.)

It is safe to assume that during a bird- pandemic, most individuals who become infected with the bird- virus will either be asymptomaticâ?”having no symptomsâ?”or their illness will not be severe enough to require hospitalization. The small percentage who do become seriously ill will have to be hospitalized, and treated with either of the two antiviral agents available, oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza). A smaller subset of that group will develop life-threatening complications such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which requires treatment with a mechanical ventilator, a respirator.

Some individuals may develop other serious complications such as liver failure, kidney failure, neurological problemsâ?”such as seizures, paralysis, psychiatric problems such as delirium or psychosis, or bleeding problems. However, it is reasonable to predict that most people infected with the virus will not die and will not have significant residual symptoms, although a small percentage will.

Million Dollar Websites for Under $500! You Can Afford a Professional Website, Here’s How!

November 1st, 2009 by blacksunday

When I first started out in business years ago, I was taken advantage of more times than I can count by internet “business people” who did not fulfill their promises. Being the kind of person who likes to believe that people are basically good and honest, you can imagine all of the challenges I faced in trying to determine who was legitimate. I used to dream about having a professional looking website. I researched thousands of websites over the years to determine the perfect look and one that offered all of the bells and whistles. After talking with dozens of web-design companies and web “gurus” I was disappointed time and time again by the prohibitive costs involved for even the most modest sites. It seemed that the best looking websites, the ones with all of the bells and whistles were not affordable to me as a start-up company. In searching I found that sophisticated looking sites were upwards of $2,000 plus hosting.

There are some excellent template programs available online, or through hosting services and at your local software companies. However, early in my career I was not internet or website savvy enough to create my own great looking site from a template, and I needed hand-holding if I was going to learn to eventually manage my own site. My goal was to develop a striking site, one that looked extremely professional, enticing, colorful, offered a good number of tabs, maybe even shopping on line, and every service possible to make my site interesting enough to keep people amused.

Knowing nothing about Affiliate programs back then, how to link to other sites to get clicks, or what was really involved in jazzing up a plain Jane site, I began what seemed like an endless search to find a competent and reputable web designer; one who was patient and available to answer my inexperienced questions; someone who would actually respond in a timely manner. I needed and wanted someone who was ethical; someone who could help me make my dreams for a professional website a reality. Following my belief that we are often guided to the perfect people and just the right time, and nearly having given up on my quest for an affordable and sophisticated site, very late (or early in the morning) I came upon a very talented web-designer named Daniel. Was this to be another disappointing investigation and a bait and switch type of deal? To my delight it was just the opposite!

Late one evening I was surfing on the net, checking out businesses for sale when I came upon an interesting and very inexpensive website for sale on an auction site. It had the look that attracted me, and was intriguing enough for me to click for more info. In so doing, I began an online conversation with the person that turned out to be my personal web designer. He was straight-forward, answered my questions, told me how to check out his work; which I did before continuing to communicate with him. That is how it all started for me. Some of my business associates have other happy endings, but mine started out by shopping on an auction site.

It was years ago that I started out in business as a novice website owner and entrepreneur. I know now that it would have taken me many more years to have accomplished the success I now experience hadn’t it have been for Daniel. Not only did Daniel become my website confidant and personal guide through the terrorizing spaces and places of the internet jungle, but a wonderful compliment to my budding and now thriving businesses. That very first website has led me to develop a greater level of success at lightening speed!! Without his expertise, without his kindness, without his generosity I would still be pointing and clicking, fumbling and falling down…and probably being eaten alive by all of the internet paranoia!

For anyone needing an honest, incredibly competent web-master; one who will set up a website that looks like, feels like and works like all of the Dollar don’t despair. Please don’t be lured into thinking that you have to spend thousands of dollars to get the look and feel of success online. Here are several methods that I used in order to start out: You might try looking for businesses for sale on some of the auction sites, or talking to colleges who specialize in teaching webpage development. You might even talk to people at your local religious affiliation, or put a small add in the newspaper, or on line asking for help with your first website. There are some wonderful do-it-yourself programs available online and at your local computer stores. Some webdesigners even give free hosting, and updates. Check with all of your associations, senior centers, and high schools. Libraries also offer help and hold classes, so do park districts. There should be someone locally who can help you get started for well under the $2,000 price. There are websites designed to help the novice business owners. For under $400 you CAN have a fabulous website and one to help you make your dreams come true! For even less than that you can have a simple website and work up from there.

Whatever you do, don’t give in to web designers who may attempt to talk you into adding bells and whistles that you really don’t need. There are places on line where you can go to ask web designers to bid for your business. Talk with your local librarian, search on line for reasonable web designers. You may be happily surprised that there are still web designers who are sensitive to the smaller pocketbooks and novice business owners.

Always ask for referrals from people you trust first. If that doesn’t produce results look to libraries, clubs, associations, religious organizations, church bulletins, park district courses, high school night classes, colleges, and senior citizens who offer help for the fun of it. Beyond these ideas, go on line and look at how web designers are rated by checking them out their feedback on auction sites, or from business rating companies. You may check out Craig’s list on line, the Better Business Bureau, your local Chamber of Commerce or Computer Clubs. When you find someone you think might be your miracle web designer, thoroughly check them Black Americana Go to the “contact us” section on the websites he or she has all ready developed. Speak directly to previous clients and find out how they like their web page(s) and the webdesigner. Find out if they offer support, have time for questions, and offer hosting. Do your homework before sending any money.

Whatever you do….get started and make your dreams a reality!
