You have to realize two things to luxuriate in this movie.

PG-13 films are typically not for children. Parents seem to contemplate honest because its spicy means “hey steal the kids.” Well how about we consider a minute BEFORE we go running to the theatre? Complains about that are objective false. The rating says it all, PAY ATTENTION.

The second thing you must realize is that this is an ADAM SANDLER movie, like his earlier films. Billy Madison, Cheerful Gilmore, all obscene and low, glean over it. That was his style and he brought it befriend to perform one of the funniest adult absorbing movies ever. The jokes here are classic, from whiteys seizures to him doing the robot in the middle of a basketball game. His sister eleanor has the cutest bid which I’ve been imitating ever since I saw the movie. The townsfolk are a bawl, with select schneider as an asian waiter. and jon lovitz as a man with a hook for a hand. This is a very unconventional Hannukah movie for the holidays. Determined it’s base, but if your offended than go rent the Ya Ya Sisterhood or some crap like that. This one is for the guys, not for parents or children. Next time read the rating before you complain. Don’t enjoy all the crap, this movie was HILARIOUS. If you like Kevin Smith movies or Adam sandler movies than view this and bust a gut laughing. (hopefully not literally)

I really enjoyed this movie. Unlike The Wedding Singer, the humor was a bit more locker room gross-out, but like the Wedding Singer, it was filled with sentiment and heart. An inflamed Scrooge-like Jewish man learns to grieve, let go, and like the holidays again. No, it’s not for dinky kids. That’s why it’s rated PG-13. Sandler shows huge talent and versatility as the voices of Davy, Eleanor and Whitey, the latter two being annoying elderly fraternal twins whom Davy grows to cherish despite their freakishness. Win Schneider, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nieland add their talent, as well as cameos by Tyra Banks and rock singer Ann Wilson as Davy’s mom. Alison Krauss lends her sweetness as the singing stammer of Jennifer, Davy’s childhood esteem, now a single mom. The music is the most outstanding fraction of this film. The lyrics are humorous and goofy, but also clever, and the song structures are dynamic and hooky, and will stop with you afterward. If you go into this movie realizing it’s not a white-washed Disney flick for the kids, but it’s a comic, sometimes inappropriate, but sensitive Christmas yarn that tackles somewhat-adult issues, like why some people loathe the holidays, I contemplate you’ll bask in it almost as great as I did. It’s also loaded with special features that are worthwhile, too.

A blooming sampling of Hollywood’s highest paid stars flew to Italy, place up a camera, and threw a party. It looked like they had a lot of fun.

Ocean’s Eleven was a watchable movie, nothing to write home about but at least those alive to didn’t have to hang their heads in shame. This sequel however is one of the most uneven pointless sequels I’ve ever seen. The worst flaw of this film is simply effect…it is Monotonous. There is also a really preposterous scene with Julia Roberts character playing Julia Roberts…maybe one of the dumbest things I’ve ever scene in a film. George Clooney and Brad Pitt plod through this movie acting like they’re the coolest hippest dudes on planet earth, sorry chaps but the jokes on you, Matt Damon seems cooler than you two arrogant chumps do together. Plain, dull, and unbiased dull. The sage is so mediocre and comic that it’s no wonder the acting is sub par. The best thing about this movie is the nap you can catch while it’s on.

As has been said by previous reviewers, Account of Crystania is not a sequel to Characterize of Lodoss Wars, although it appears to bill itself as such. While the names of Lord Ashrom and the dusky elf Pirotess are employed, and the hero bears a striking resemblance to Parn of RLW, that is where the similarities kill.

The animation is average at best. The philosophize acting is somewhere between indifferent and terrible, and the character depictions flat abominable. The gloomy elf acts nothing like any shaded elf I’ve ever seen or read about. Another character is apparently meant to be a berserker, but is only a pale shadow of what he could or should be.

All these problems notwithstanding, the yarn somehow holds together and manages to hold the viewer’s interest. By the waste, you may actually score yourself hoping that Ashrom and Pirotess at last have a chance for mutual happiness. Stale as it is, Epic of Crystania does work.

If you advance this DVD hoping it will be a continuation of the Lodoss War saga, you will be disappointed. However, if you can area that preconception aside and win Myth of Crystania as a sword and sorcery legend entirely its contain, you may salvage it a surprisingly satisfying memoir.

Recommended, but honest barely.

Trying to compare this to Portray of Lodoss War is neearly impossible. Lodoss War had an entire 13 portion series to flesh out its universe. So you shouldn’t try to compare them. It is also not any sort of sequel to Lodoss War, rather a kind of offshoot. The biggest mistake they did with this movie was advertising it as a Lodoss War followup, because the biggest predicament people have with it is it isn’t a followup at all.

The movie itself is very excellent. A lot of people were turned off by the animation, but I understanding it great the storyline well (a bit darker of a contemplate then Lodoss) . There are a lot of gargantuan action sequences and enough of a storyline to possess things together. If you’re looking for another Lodoss War then I suggest you might want to see for the upcoming tv series, this is a different memoir and a different feel. Redon is a kid who will gain emotional at times and is more naive then even Parn was. His goals at the inaugurate are FAR from pure and he is not suited at all, atleast at the launch. And it is fairly brutal, although not anywhere advance the precise brutal anime movies like Fist of the North Star. And last but not least, Ashrom and Piroteuse are portrayed differently then in Lodoss (and I must designate here that this is 300 years after the events in Lodoss and I would have to consider the characters would change a bit, especially due to how mighty they care for each other) . Purist fanatics need not apply to this movie. I would rate this 4 and half stars if it was avaiable, but since it isn’t I’ll designate it up to 5.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture! Click Here

The bottom line is if you’re the type of person who hates anything different from the established and are a purist Lodoss War fan, you’ll probably disapprove this. I’ve actually checked the acquire and the reviews vary from “perfect 5 star movie”, usually honest reviewers, to “avoid this like the plague”, usually die hard Lodoss fans. If you want a well-behaved fantasy movie though this is a gracious one to choose up. I said it once and I’ll say it again you don’t need every account to be the same thing over and over again and I like the intention Crystania seperates itself from Lodoss.

This is an intriguing sequel from the point of notion that none of the cast from Peyton Station reprise their roles and the time period seems to have been moved up 10 or 15 years without the essential characters aging. This film retains the feel of the recent in some of the scenes (especially slow the credits where many of the pastoral Recent England shots from the modern were old), but it has a attend lot studio gaze about it in other scenes. Unlike the novel, a gracious fragment of this record takes station in Original York City as it revolves its focus amongst the pairs of main characters. The myth is standard soap opera material, yet it does not fail to entertain thanks to graceful performances from a menacing Mary Astor, a charming and safe Jeff Chandler and a pleasant Robert Favorable. Not to its detriment nor back, the main characters of this portion consist of the film’s younger cast members who’s performances are unprejudiced standard with the exception of Tuesday Weld. However, the film benefits from dazzling color photography and Franz Waxman’s reworking of his modern Peyton Residence regain, which is in stereo on this VHS copy.

It isn’t mandatory that you stare Peyton Position before Return To Peyton Plot as the actors are different and some of the characters did not reappear in the sequel. I watched both relieve to support and Return To… was impartial as glossy, trashy and colourfully slick as its predecessor. With a anecdote like this, taking situation in a exiguous town bulky of characters, there are more than enough stories to interweave. The audio commentary of Sylvia Stoddard is a tremendous supplement to this dvd. (peer also The Best of Everything) She related stories about Tuesday Weld, Mary Astor and Grace Metalious among many others. This is a well-produced melodrama and I recommend it on that basis.

We bought this DVD as an Easter point to for our kids. My wife and I both have very fond memories of the unique, and I was consuming to gape how this one stacked up. I really didn’t judge it was a abominable movie at all. It concerns the continuing adventures of Wilbur the pig, Templeton the rat, and the rest of the barnyard critters of the modern, including Charlotte’s three children that we met at the ruin. There’s a modern baby lamb on the farm, Cardigan, who is ostracized from the other sheep because of his gloomy fur. Wilbur, a pig who definitely knows the value of friendship, takes the lamb under his glide (so to instruct) . When a bound to the obliging frail county comely results in Cardigan being sold to a neighboring farmer, Wilbur’s concerns for his friend leads him, Templeton, and Charlotte’s daughters on an adventure to fetch their friend.

The animation of the movie is very well done, great better than most direct-to-video releases, and the background paintings and such were also well done. In that regard, I was very pleasantly surprised. The voice-over acting was fairly faithful to the novel, although I must admit to missing Paul Lynde as Templeton. The songs in the movie are OK but nothing particularly outstanding. I did seek, however, that time has been kind to Wilbur, melting quite a bit of weight off of him and giving him a nice cute patch of fluffy hair on top of his head. Fern, Wilbur’s human friend and savior from the current, also appears to have gotten younger, and her friend Henry Fussy is nowhere in inspect.

Basically, this is a cute movie, but it is nowhere come the absolutely stellar quality of the first. If you are someone, like me, who remembers the unique fondly and mediate this might be a kindly movie for your kids, don’t be shocked to rob it up. Your kids will appreciate it. However, if you are thinking that it will be as mighty of a classic as the fresh, I am troubled you will be disapponted. Quiet, all in all, it is a decent movie on its bear.

It’s hard to follow up a beloved movie like Charlotte’s Web. However, the writers of this sequel seem to invite antagonism by botching everything that made the recent Charlotte’s Web so magical. This is always lawful of sequels made decades after the novel. I gave this movie the aid of the doubt because I always want to occupy that the things I liked as a child have some kind of Midas Touch (i.e. Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake) . But Charlotte’s Web 2 goes out of its intention to enlighten its inferiority to the recent. Also, this sequel is unprejudiced creepy. For example, by the time that this movie takes position, Wilbur has somehow grown sideburns. Ew! And Wilbur’s dignity is all but gone. Definite, he’s a pig, but in the new movie we never saw him sticking his nose in a pile of dung and enjoying it. What’s in the next one – will he actually be eating it too? Another disturbing aspect of this sequel is the change in Fern Arable. The once titillating girl who fought to build Wilbur’s life is now a chipped-tooth hick who is only eager in winning a place blooming prize for an vast homegrown tomato. Perhaps the most horrifying thing about this movie is that it is centered around Wilbur trying to assign a newly befriended unlit sheep from being sold. The murky sheep’s greatest anxiety is that he’ll be broken-down to obtain sweaters for people, but the writers actually decided to name him CARDIGAN(?!) . Overall, I gain watching this sequel fair stole an hour and a half of my life.

The pinnacle of Errol Flynn’s string of swashbuckling adventures…The most expensive film Warners had ever made (until 1938), and in comely Technicolor, to boot…The film with the most cherished of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s many film scores…The film that literally place the standard for every ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Knighthood’ movie since…One of the greatest films, not only of the 1930s, but of all time…THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD is, in EVERY sense of the word, a CLASSIC, and the fresh DVD edition is LONG overdue!

The memoir of Sherwood Forest’s accepted bandit had been a movie staple since peaceful films (Douglas Fairbanks’ acrobatic 1922 version was regarded as one of his finest roles), and the WB, riding high on a string of hits by Fairbanks’ younger and sexier successor, Errol Flynn, knew they had all the elements in region to form a gigantic entertainment that no other studio could match!

Originally intended for James Cagney, the property had languished for three years, until Errol Flynn exploded onto the scene, and the studio knew they had the actor ‘born’ to play the role. Not wishing to urge into suitable problems with United Artists, who’d produced the 1922 film, an unique script, incorporating elements of “Ivanhoe”, veteran legends, medieval ballads, a accepted 19th century stage production, and a bit of Howard Pyle, was written by Norman Reilly Raine and Seton I. Miller (with some uncredited assistance by Rowland Leigh) . Casting nearly all of their “British Colony” in speaking roles, the studio brought attend Alan Hale to reprise his 1922 role of Minute John (an kindly choice, as Flynn and Hale had terrific rapport), casted stout amusing actor Eugene Pallette (Guy Kibbee was the first choice) as a gravelly-voiced Friar Tuck, and Flynn’s LIGHT BRIGADE costar, Patric Knowles, as Will Scarlett (David Niven was unavailable) . As the villains, Claude Rains played the fey Prince John, and Basil Rathbone (whose duel with Flynn in CAPTAIN BLOOD was a film highlight) was perfection as the villainous Sir Guy of Gisbourne, Maid Marion’s Norman suitor, and Robin’s arch-nemesis. In the role of Marion, could anyone OTHER than Olivia de Havilland have been cast? Flynn and de Havilland had already done two films together (and would do four more, after ROBIN HOOD), and their chemistry was so perfect that 1930s veil magazines were always hinting of a romance between the two (there wasn’t, despite overtures by Flynn; they remained simply friends, with Olivia and Errol constantly playing pranks on each other) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Adventures of Robin Hood! Click Here

Not that the production was problem-free; the current director, William Keighley, was axed after the plot shooting was completed, as the studio didn’t like his near to the script and actors; Michael Curtiz, who had ‘made’ a star of Flynn, in CAPTAIN BLOOD, was fast brought in, adding his sense of drama, lighting (the

‘light-and-shadow’ climactic duel between Robin and Sir Guy was a Curtiz ‘trademark’), and style. Both Curtiz and Keighley would part the ‘Director’ credit when the film was released.

THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD was Warners’ biggest box office hit of 1938, became a multiple Academy Award winner (with the most statuettes of any film that year), and it’s luster has only increased through the years, being named as one of the AFI’s 100 Greatest Films of All Time. This is a classic that TRULY lives up to the term, and is an absolute MUST for your DVD collection!

There are a dinky number of films in the history of Hollywood that can actually be considered perfect. “The Adventures of Robin Hood” with the incomparable Errol Flynn is one of them. With over a hundred reviews already, there is minute for anyone to add. I will, however, provide a brief summary as to why this film is indeed perfect, a term I exhaust very rarely.

The cast–the greatest of all swashbucklers at the peak of his charm and athleticism, Errol Flynn– Olivia De Havilland, a fair woman, a glorious actress and an ideal partner for our hero–Basil Rathbone, oozing putrid from every pore–Claude Rains, conniving and base as always–Eugene Palette, a jovial yet formidable Friar Tuck–Alan Hale as rough and ready Exiguous John–and on and on–even the most minor character is honest correct.

The sets and costumes–absolutely gorgeous–the archery contest is impartial one of many scenes where technicolour shows its stuff!

The Directors–Messrs. Keighley and Curtiz could not have brought this epic to life more expertly.

The Music–unforgettable Korngold come by.

Add all these ingredients and you have correct cinema magic!

Warner Bros–the DVD is marvellous, and the extras on the second disc ( detailed in other reviews ) provide more treats for the lucky viewer. What a ravishing job!

So–if you have that listless Kevin Costner/Robin Hood DVD, throw it on the trash heap, and revel in the true thing! A triumph!

This is a first class, gothic chiller with an outstanding cast, a riveting anecdote line, and a musical secure that will accomplish the viewer want to sleep with the lights on! A first rate film, it had audiences riveted to the conceal when it was first released in the mid nineteen seventies. I know. I was one of that audience. This film has withstood the test of time, as it is as racy today, as when it was first released.

Katherine (Lee Remick) and Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) are a wealthy, older American couple. Katherine is pregnant and, while in Italy, gives birth to an ostensibly stillborn boy, a fact that is kept from her. Vivid how noteworthy his wife wanted the baby and the disaster that she had in conceiving, Robert agrees to have the dreary baby supplanted by a living newborn whose mother died in child birth, keeping this information from Katherine. They name this baby Damien.

All goes well for the prosperous Thorn family, until Damien turns five. A series of dramatic, original events commence to occur around the Thorns, all seemingly stemming from Damien. Well guarded by a self sufficient, somewhat creepy nanny (Billie Whitelaw), there are those who would bear him to be the Antichrist. By the time that Katherine and Robert start to realize who Damien may truly be, their lives are out of control. With the attend of an inquisitive photographer, a repentant priest, and an archaeologist who holds the key to the destruction of the Antichrist, Robert Thorn becomes a man with a mission. Will Damien let him complete that mission? Peruse this movie and salvage out. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee that you will be sleeping with the lights on and the covers over your head.

David Seltzer wrote a terrific screenplay. This first class production, which is deftly directed by Richard Donner, is played with straightforward sincerity by its outstanding cast. The casting of Gregory Peck and Lee Remick was pure genius, as their famed reputations infused the movie with a believability not view possible, given the theme of the script. Playing it straight, as a couple caught in a vortex of events over which they have tiny control, they sweep the viewer along with them. Supported by a ravishing cast, there are important performances given by Billie Whitelaw, as the nanny with a mission, David Warner, as the photographer who begins to search for that something queer seems to be going on, and Harvey Stephens, as Damien, whose angelic countenance belies his satanic nature.

This is a riveting, subtle film that, with a few well planned, frightening moments, and an effectively creepy musical derive that builds suspense to a crescendo, manages to thoroughly steal the viewer. If one is looking for a blood and gore fest, there is really none of that here. Instead, gape to be troubled out of the seat of your pants by a good script, astonishing acting, deft direction, and a musical derive that will long linger in one’s memory. It is small wonder that Jerry Goldsmith, the composer of the fresh obtain for The Omen, won an Academy Award for his efforts.

The DVD is a loaded DVD with a lot of engrossing features. It provides a forty six petite documetary on the making of the film, which is quite sharp., as well as a director’s commentary. There is a also an enthralling, six exiguous short on some of the pitfalls that beset the cast and crew during the filming of the movie. The composer also has a slight segment of his enjoy. There are the other standard features, such as theatrical trailers, interactive menus, and scene selections, as well as crystal obvious visuals and audio. This is a first rate DVD of a film well worth having in one’s collection. Bravo!

I have a unique obsession with the first 2 Omen films, and have the DVD boxed position, so I’ve seen the DVD quite a few times. This special edition includes everything from the first release: Richard Donner’s commentary, a deleted scene, the featurette on all the strange coincidences & tragedies that happened around the filming, and the impartial over 40 diminutive documentary on the making of the film.

The unusual features added- not including the spiffy fresh poke case screen and spooky white cover- are as follows. We obtain a short introduction from director Donner, a 20 itsy-bitsy featurette that is basically Wes Craven talking about why he likes the film so mighty. Kind of random stuff, but the thing that made me upgrade is the unusual, impartial under 2 hour documentary. It’s narrated by Jack Palance- that’s worth the money correct there- and goes into detail of how it started as an view as “The Anti-Christ”, then “The Birthmark” and finally the completed “The Omen.”

This re-release was obviously done to promote the modern remake, but they actually gain it worth your while. The packaging really is nice, and for fans of the Omen or those fervent in the uncommon happenings that surround it- this is a advantageous addition to your collection. For those of you who haven’t seen this film before- don’t execrable your judgement on the remake. This is a classy but fast-paced bright thriller/horror film, with astounding acting (especially from Gregory Peck) fabulous music and cinematography. The 6/6/06 date has passed, but until the world really does slay you should indulge in this wintry release and relish a time before certain and tacky CGI jumps were considered “scare”.

This film is a pure delight. I recently had the opportunity to see it on the big screen at a local “movie palace” on Halloween, 2001, and it was a wonderful experience.
Polanski’s intent was to make a spooky, funny, fairy tale and he fully succeeded. Visually the film is beautiful and magical, full of moon-lit, snow-covered landscapes and spooky sets. The production values are first-rate. The music score by Chrisopher Komeda may be the best ever composed for a horror film. The score is spooky, haunting and tender by turns, full of wailing voices, it sets the mood for the film wonderfully.
The highlight of the film is the ballroom sequence, in which the ghoulish vampires rise from their graves to dance a graceful minuet. This scene is stunning.
Some people may be too jaded and just not cool enough to appreciate this film’s unique charm. Too bad for them. Those who are fun-loving, have a bit of innocence and appreciate atmosphere and mood over gore and guts will love the film. The cast is uniformly excellent, especially Jack MacGowran and Polanski as the bumbling vampire hunters. And Sharon Tate is beautiful and funny as the dizzy Sarah.

I haven’t seen all of writer/director/actor/producer Roman Polanski’s films, but the ones I have seen have kind of been hit or miss propositions for me. On the one hand I thought Rosemary’s Baby (1968) to be a wonderfully creepy film, but on the other The Tenant (1976) while interesting, I thought to be slightly confusing and lacking a strong sense of direction. Chinatown (1974) is acknowledged by many to be a classic (to which I’d agree), while The Ninth Gate (1999) tended to annoy me with a pretentious ambiguity stemming from a European stylization of making a film obtuse and inaccessible to audiences…of course, these are all just my own, personal opinions, which really don’t mean squat in the grand scheme of things…at the end of the day one should really draw their own conclusions based on their own, personal experiences. As far as the film The Fearless Vampire Killers or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck (1967) goes, I enjoyed it as it served to reaffirmed something which I already knew…whether you like Polanski’s films or not, his features are so very individualistic, rarely transgressing on each other, displaying his immeasurable talents, vision, and his ability to adapt to a wide range of material. Co-written by Gérard Brach (Repulsion) and Polanski (the latter also directed and starred), the film features performances by Jack MacGowran (Tom Jones, Doctor Zhivago), Alfie Bass (The Lavender Hill Mob), Ferdy Mayne (Where Eagles Dare, The Vampire Lovers), Iain Quarrier (Cul-de-sac), and Sharon Tate (Valley of the Dolls), who would later marry Polanski about a year prior to her murder (and that of their unborn child) at the hands of Charles Manson and his cult followers.

As the film opens, it’s a moonlit night, and we see a horse drawn sled traveling down a snowy road, the occupant of the sled being the driver, Professor Abronsius (MacGowran), and the Professor’s assistant Alfred (Polanski), who, on the surface, appear to be a pair of buffoons, but in such a way where the same buffoonery that gets them into trouble, also get them out, illustrated throughout the story. Seems the Professor, who has long since been labeled `a nut’ by his once colleagues, is traveling the Transylvanian countryside in order to further his knowledge about vampires and their ilk. After arriving at a small village and availing themselves of the services of the local inn, telltale signs abound with regards to the presence of vampire activity within the area…the interiors of the inn are decorated with strings of garlic cloves, a hunchback arrives at the inn to collect supplies, and so on…and sure enough, not soon after their arrival, the innkeeper’s daughter Sarah (Tate) is abducted, her father killed (and subsequently turned) while searching for her, and the boys are off to a nearby castle in order to find her, the Professor with an eye towards proving the theories which he’s read, and Alfred more so because he’s become smitten with the girl. They eventually do find the castle, along with its master, in that of Count von Krolock (Mayne), along with the Count’s very effeminate son Herbert (Quarrier)…quite the aristocratic pair they are…the Professor and Alfred find themselves guests of the Count and learn of a grand gala approaching, one to be held within the castle, a sort of cadaverous celebration where the boys may not only be the guests of honor, but also the main course…

I’ve given some details about the plot, but there’s really no way what I’ve written displays all the wonderful aspects inherent within the story and the film itself. There is just so much going on at any one point one could watch this film a number of times and still see something new each viewing. One of the aspects that impressed me the most, from the beginning and throughout the film, was the extensive amount of detail and attention to creating a complete sense of putting the viewer within the context of the story. It’s like a fairy tale come to life. The period sets and pieces are exquisitely beautiful and intricate, featuring a serious eye towards detailing, as are the props, costumes, backdrops, etc. There’s just such a pervasive feel to the entire film in terms of providing the appropriate gothic setting, something that used to be a common factor in both Hammer and Universal horror productions during their respective heydays…and keep in mind, this is supposed to a mixing of comedy and horror. And when I say comedy, I don’t mean the laugh out kind (there is a good deal of slapstick, but that’s not the specific humor I’m talking about here), but a slinky, subtle type of humor blended as well as I’ve ever seen in a cross genre film. A perfect example of this delicate melding comes in the sequence when Alfred, while searching the castle rooms for Sarah, accidentally walks in on the Count’s dandy of a son Herbert. The comic touches in Herbert’s coy advances soon erupt into an explosion of fanged violence that results in a Keystone Cops type chase through the castle. Another one of my favorite sequences is when the Count and his son are preparing to retire to their ornate coffins prior to the sun rising, aided by their hunchbacked manservant Koukol. After they get settled in (and boxed up), here comes Shagal (Bass), the once innkeeper now vampire, dragging his meager pine box into the crypts with the intent of also settling in for the day. Koukol, seeing this as an affront to his masters, proceeds to unceremoniously drag the coffin, which Shagal is now sitting in, down to the stables, as that’s a seemingly more appropriate setting from someone of his class, with Shagal weakly protesting the entire way. The performances are strong all around, particularly that of Count von Krolock, played by Mayne. He embodies the aristocratic and sinister features one would expect from his character, along with including enough distinctions to separate his character from those of his cinematic ilk. Another wonderful aspect is the original music provided by regular Polanski collaborator and composer Krzysztof Komeda. It’s suave, sophisticated, spooky, enchanting, oft times understated, and compliments film without actually drawing away from the visuals. All in all this is perhaps one of the best crafted films I’ve seen straddling two genres that normally don’t play well together, and worth a look for those who can appreciate the expertise involved. In terms of contemporary artists, I might compare this to the better outings by individuals like Terry Gilliam or Tim Burton.

Apparently, prior to the film’s American release, MGM had mangled it pretty well, removing about ten minutes, adding a new opening sequence, and hacking the soundtrack to pieces, which might explain why it didn’t do as well here as it did overseas. The anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) does looks very good, but there does seem room for improvement. The Dolby Digital 2.0 mono audio comes through clean. As far as extras, there’s a theatrical trailer for the film (also presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, along with a comical vintage featurette titled The Fearless Vampire Killers: Vampires 101 (10:18) which appears to be a lengthy promotional piece created to help advertise the film back when it was originally released.

“Shrek The Third” might lack the originality of the recent film, but it’s unexcited a very friendly movie. Shrek is once again place into an sad area, except this time around he isn’t trying to gain Fiona’s heart or designate her parents. This time he’s been chosen to replace his father-in-law as the king of Far Far Away. He fast finds out that there is one other potential heir to the throne called Arthur. Once he figures out where Arthur is located, Shrek, Donkey, and Puss dwelling out to procure the boy and convince him that he should be king. Before leaving, however, Shrek is weighed down with more pressure when he finds out that he’ll soon be a dad. While Shrek’s away, Charming gathers up all of fairytale-dom’s meanest villains (including Captain Hook and the Putrid Witch from “Snow White”) and stages a successful coup to become ruler of Far Far Away. Using Fiona and her friends as bait, Charming awaits Shrek’s return in order to carry out him off and become the rightful king.

I reflect the reason that many people detest this film so powerful is that the spotlight shines considerably less on Shrek, Donkey, and Puss than it did it the previous films. Fiona, Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty (of “Beauty and the Beast”), Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty all derive a decent amount of camera time. Lesser sidekicks like Pinocchio and Gingey also steal the camera off of Shrek. Even Charming gets grand screentime along with his fellow villains. Does this form the film any better or worse than the others? Not in my idea. In fact, the princesses add quite a bit of humor to the film (not to mention a sweet action sequence position to a conceal of Heart’s “Barracuda”) . Charming and his companions also offer some fun moments. The addition of two other characters, Arthur and Merlin, also give the viewer more to laugh at.

I’ll agree with others who stated that the fart jokes and other sophomoric humor can be excessive, but no more than in the other films. In fact, jokes like that got the children laughing more than in the other two films which, in my thought, had more humor for the adults than this sequel.

All of the modern whine talents design it support for the film, and a few recent voices are added as well. These include Justin Timberlake, Eric Slothful, and a few frail SNLers. It’s nice to witness that SNL’s castmates stick so cessation together.

Overall, this film is better estimable for the youngsters when compared to the other films. However, that doesn’t mean that the adults in the audience miss out on any of the fun. This will be a obvious win when it rolls out on DVD. I recommend it as a recall.

Shrek The Third is a obliging movie with wonderful animation. I marvel at that animation! However, the set is unbiased average and it didn’t really possess my attention the diagram I hoped it would. I consider after this Dreamworks needs to travel on to recent gain current characters in modern films; but only time will scream if Dreamworks wants to milk this theme yet again. The voiceovers are very well done and the DVD has a plethora of extras.

When the action begins, Shrek (Mike Myers) and his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are filling in for the ailing King Harold (John Cleese) . Unfortunately, King Harold passes away and, with his dying wish, names Shrek as the rightful heir to the throne. This doesn’t sit too well with Shrek who has been suffering from public relations embarrassment to public relations embarrassment as he launches ships with such strength that the ship blows a hole and sinks–and more. King Harold says, fair before he dies, that the only other heir to the throne would be a young man at school named Arthur (Justin Timberlake) . Immediately after the funeral for King Harold, Shrek, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss-in-boots (Antonio Banderas) status skim to come by Arthur at school. Things go downhill even more when Artie (as Arthur is called) is ambivalent at best to become a king; and it’s up to Shrek and his buddies to convince Arthur to become king.

Of course, things encourage in Far, Far Away Land aren’t remarkable better. Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his cronies pick over the kingdom and imprison Fiona and her friends including Fiona’s mother. Things watch glorious bleak.

Of course, the place can go anywhere from here. (Yes, I know, you’ve read the spoilers by now but I won’t give them away anyway.) Will Fiona and the other women be able to crash free and fight the nefarious Prince Charming? How does Shrek react when he finds out he’s becoming a father? What happens to Puss-in-boots and Donkey when an ancient wizard accidentally casts a spell on them so that they are trapped in each other’s bodies? Notice the movie and gain out!

The DVD extras are very extensive. The commentary is great; and I like the bonus feature that includes a man going through a storyboard of a deleted scene at the school where Arthur is standing on line to find his lunch. There are comical “suggestions” from Donkey, Shrek and other characters as to how to deal with the problems of parenthood; and there are web links as well.

Overall, this is a qualified difficulty and a movie to witness when a better one is unavailable. However, Shrek fans will like this movie. This is best splendid for families with kids that are at least 8 or 9 years ancient because of some rude humor that you wouldn’t want younger kids to experience.

Written and directed by Sandra Nettelbeck, “Bella Martha”, strangely translated as “Mostly Martha”, was her first ample feature film, and won international awards and tickled many…perhaps mostly women, as it is exquisitely romantic. Martina Gedeck as Martha, the master chef who tries to control her world while it collapses around her, is reliable. She has an intense kind of beauty and grace, strong but emotionally fragile, and Gadeck’s body language speaks volumes, and lets us glance into her heart with a simple gesture of the hand, or a flicker in her eyes. This is one of the best performances I’ve seen in a very long time.

Her relationship with her 8 year conventional niece Lina, so well played by Maxime Foreste, is complex, understandable, and very enthralling, and the chemistry between Martha and Mario, (Sergio Castellitto is perfect in the portion) is unbelievable, complete opposites attracting. The supporting cast are all noble, and director Nettelbeck plays Lina’s mother in a touching video sequence.

The gain by David Darling and Keith Jarrett is honorable, with exquisite sections of Arvo Part’s music for one of the most tragic scenes, and includes a bit of Dean Martin’s version of “Volare”, and the irresistible, simply palatable “Via con Me” by Paolo Conte, a song so gay it would invent a beget smile. The cinematography by Michael Bertel is also amazing, with situation shots of Hamburg and Italy, and overflowing vistas of delightful food.

I cried, I laughed out loud, and I will always remember this film; it is a tiny but polished gem.

Total running time is 109 minutes.

I have a well-liked complaint that gargantuan European films are often killed by brain-dead U.S. marketing campaigns – usally these are well-behaved light dramas absurdly cast as screwball comedies. The most egregious example is “East is East,” in which an outstanding film bears absolutely zero correlation to the description of it on a stupefyingly monotonous U.S.-issued VHS coverbox.

“Mostly Martha” suffers from some of that. This is an trustworthy movie – a feel kindly portion without pandering. Martina Gedeck’s outstanding portrayal of “Martha” is well worth your money. This got buried fleet in the U.S. because I felt like it was marketed to highlight the ’screwball’ relationship between Martha and Mario…of course, their relationship is anything but & comprises only one-third of the myth or so.

I run you to steal this up when it becomes available on DVD – you’re in for a right treat.
